NUCSER Students Visit Animal Care Centre
Feb 16, 2021
As a part of the co-curricular activities, the NSS Cell of NUCSER organized a visit of students to the Animal Care Centre, located in Shaktinagar in the outskirts of Mangaluru on 16th Feb 2021. The shelter is run under the aegis of an NGO, The Animal Care Trust, which has been working towards providing care and shelter to sick, stray, abandoned and injured animals over the last two decades. The shelter works like a hospital and is equipped with all basic needs including an operation facility.
About 40 NSS volunteers took part in this event, accompanied by Dr. Rama Adiga, NSS Coordinator of the Institute. It was a great experience for the volunteers to have a first-hand experience on how the sick and injured animals are looked after by the staff at the Centre and how their selfless acts bring these animals back to life. Many of the animals are given by the Trust free of cost to people who are willing to adopt pets. The shelter is also actively involved with the Government in implementation of animal birth control programs and vaccination of community animals.
