In the M.Sc. programme the focus is on gaining advanced knowledge in the field of biomedicine. The course curriculum is designed to introduce the students to more complex mechanisms related to human diseases in order to train them for a career in advanced research in health science. In CBCS, the major change is a shift from the traditional marking system to a grading system. It provides an opportunity for the students to choose from the prescribed courses comprising core, elective (generic and discipline specific) or skill based courses according to their learning needs, interests, and aptitude.
Biomedical Science is an interdisciplinary course that involves the study of human health and disease. In the first year, the curriculum comprises of fundamental subjects, which includes human anatomy and physiology, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology and specialized subjects like medical microbiology, bioinformatics and computational biology, research methodology & biostatistics and research ethics and IPR. In addition, the students will get hands-on training on the tools used in techniques in biomedical science under the skill enhancement course. The second year will have subjects that are highly specialized including courses like medical biochemistry, medical genetics, biology and genetics of cancer and nanobiotechnology, personal genomics and precision medicine, therapeutic biomolecules, as part of the discipline specific electives. The most unique feature in M.Sc. Biomedical Science is the provision for a full-time research project in the second year.

He did his short-term post-doc at University College Dublin, Ireland in the year 2018. His research focus includes molecular characterization of nontyphoidal Salmonella with special consideration to their antibiotic resistance mechanism which led to the detection of class 1 integrons in Salmonella Weltevreden and silent antibiotic resistance genes in some non-typhoidal isolates of Salmonella. Further, he developed a PCR for the simultaneous detection of Salmonella Pathogenicity Island 2 and its antibiotic resistance genes. Dr. Krishna Kumar Ballamoole is a molecular microbiologist, obtained Ph.D. (Microbiology) from Manipal University. His research focuses on the identification of virulence factors from pathogenic vibrios and elucidation of their activities to gain insight into their molecular pathogenesis. His research work combines state-of-the-art microbiology, molecular biology and next generation sequencing strategies to shed light on bacterial pathogenesis mechanism. In addition to pursuing the main research interest, he is s also involved developing monoclonal antibody and nucleic acid based rapid diagnostics for the detection of food borne pathogens.

Anurag Sharm is working as Assistant Professor at NUCSER, Nitte University. During his Ph.D. he studied the stress response of endosulfan on D. melanogaster, a non-target organism, at sub-organismal as well as organismal level. Further, his studies also highlight the potential of D. melanogaster as an alternative animal model for in-vivo assessment of environmental chemical mediated toxicity, which might have relevance to higher organisms. Later, he joined CNRS-Centre de Biologie du Développement, Toulouse, France as a postdoctoral researcher and worked on deciphering the function of the Drosophila hematopoietic niche to maintain blood cell homeostasis. Presently, he is engaged in the following areas-a) Development of an in vivo Drosophila model to study toxicant/radiation induced hematopoietic perturbations and b) Host-Microbe interaction and environmental toxicants.

The focus of my research is to understand the functioning of disordered and hybrid proteins, with respect to age associated diseases like neurodegeneration and cancer. A parallel interest is to develop amyloid based bio-nanocomposites for diverse applications. During my postdoc at Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam and PhD, I gained expertise in protein conformation studies using atomic force microscopy by single molecule imaging and analysis of DNA repair proteins (BRCA2-RAD51), study of polymorphism in self-assembled amyloids (α-synuclein) and functionalization of amyloids with gold nanoparticles (conductive nanowires). I joined NUCSER in 2020.
