Awareness program on Environment and Animal rights

Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character. In view of increase in cruelty to animals in the present times, it was felt that there was a need for a sensitization and awareness program for the students, aimed at protection of the animal species.

With the right motivation provided by the University NSS Co-ordinator, Dr. Sumalatha Shetty and support by the Director of NUCSER, Prof. Anirban Chakraborty, the NSS Cell of NUCSER conducted an awareness program on environment and animal rights on 22nd Feb, 2021 at University Auditorium, Paneer campus. The chief guest for the function was Ms. Suma R Nayak, an advocate by profession and Trustee of an NGO, Vatsalya, that runs an animal care shelter for abandoned and injured stray animals at Shaktinagar, in the outskirts of Mangaluru. The chief guest in her address presented an overview of the activities of the shelter and urged the student volunteers to join in this noble cause of caring for animals.

Dr. Alka Kulkarni, Registrar, NitteDU, presided over the event. The NSS volunteers from constituent colleges of NitteDU were the participants. Prof. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director Projects, NUTEC; Prof. Dr. CS Shastry, Principal, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Prof. Vinod Aranha, Director, Nitte Institute of Architecture, were also present. The program was coordinated by Dr. Rama Adiga, In-charge of NSS Cell, NUCSER.
