The department currently offers three M. Sc. Courses, under the Faculty of Biological Sciences.

Apart from the Flagship course M.Sc. Biomedical Science (BMS) course, which was instituted in the year 2013-14, two new courses will be introduced in the academic year 2015-16.
M. Sc. Food Safety and Biotechnology (MFB)
M. Sc. Marine Microbiology and Biotechnology (MMB)

During 2017-18, two more courses will be introduced:
M. Sc. Molecular Medicine and Cancer Genetics (MMC)
M. Sc. Environmental Biotechnology and Toxicology (MET)

Eligibility for Admissions:
A candidate seeking admission to M.Sc. Marine Microbiology and Biotechnology course must have passed minimum three years of Bachelors degree in Basic/Applied Biological Sciences (Bio-medical/Bio-science/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Microbiology/Agricultural Sciences/Food and Nutrition/Environmental Science/Veterinary Science/Fisheries Science/Medical Imaging Technology/Operation Theatre Technology/Medical Lab Technology/BE-Biotechnology/B Tech Biotechnology /Medical/Dental/Pharmacy/and any other equivalent life science degrees of any Board/University or an equivalent examination of any other approved Board or University with not less than 50% marks in aggregate.

For candidates belonging to SC/ST or Category I, the minimum percentage of marks shall be a pass in degree or its equivalent examination.

Foreign Nationals and candidates who have qualified from a Foreign University/Board should obtain permission from Nitte University prior to the admission for equivalence of the qualification.

Duration of the course: The candidate shall undergo a period of study extending over 4 semesters (2 academic years). The first two semesters will include subjects common to all the courses, which are called Foundation Subjects. The third semester will include subjects specific to each course, which are called Specialized Subjects. The fourth semester will include project work and dissertation.

Medium of Instruction and Examinations: The medium of Instruction and Examination shall be in English.
