Centre for Science Education and Research is an independent teaching cum research facility under Nitte (Deemed to be University). The Centre offers niche courses that have great potential for employment in research. The courses are highly interdisciplinary, application oriented, skill based and provide a perfect platform for those aspiring to take up a career in advanced research and development. The course curriculum is designed to help students gather not only theoretical knowledge but also gain hands-on practical experience in high-end molecular techniques and tools used in biological research. The impetus is on “One Health” and the various infectious, non-infectious, zoonotic and environmental issues affecting human health. The Centre also offers Ph.D in Biological Science.
- 2013: The Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER) was established in K. S. Hegde Medical Academy with the aim of imparting quality education and to carry out cutting edge research in the field of human health and disease in the form of a three year UG program (B.Sc. Biomedical Science) and two years PG program (M.Sc. Biomedical Science)
- 2015: The institute moved to an independent building of more than 30,000 square feet in the quiet and serene environment at the Paneer Campus equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and research facilities.
- 2016: The centre introduced two more Masters programs namely M.Sc. Food Safety and Biotechnology and M.Sc. Marine Microbiology and Biotechnology in addition to the flagship programs of B.Sc. and M.Sc. Biomedical Science. The centre established specialized research facilities such as Zebrafish and Drosophila Model Systems for advanced research in cancer biology, developmental biology and toxicology
- 2017: Following the guidelines of UGC, the centre adopted and introduced the Choice Based Credit System for the UG program and rechristened the program as B.Sc. (Hons) Biomedical Science
