M.Sc. (Microbiology)


The program is designed for students preparing for a career in microbiology by providing them knowledge and skill enhancement in basic and applied principles. The choice-based credit system which is a shift from traditional marking system provides an opportunity for the students to choose from a variety of courses including core, generic, discipline specific electives and skill enhancement courses. The courses include genetics, physiology, biochemistry, immunology, biotechnology and specialised subjects like medical microbiology, industrial microbiology, bioinformatics, and biostatistics.. The program includes a one-year research project with full-time research in the final semester which will enable students to gain hands-on experience of applying up-to-date scientific knowledge and develop high-level skills in cutting edge technologies making them ready for careers in basic and applied microbiology thereon.

Eligibility for admission to M.Sc. (Microbiology):
A Candidate with three years of Bachelor’s degree in Basic/Applied Biological Sciences: Biomedical/Bioscience/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Microbiology/ Agricultural Sciences/Food and Nutrition/Environmental Science/Veterinary Science/Fisheries Science/Medical Imaging Technology/Operation Theatre Technology/Medical Lab Technology/BE-Biotechnology/B Tech in Biotechnology /Medical/Dental/Pharmacy and any other equivalent life science degrees of any Board/University or an equivalent examination of any other approved Board or University with not less than 50% marks in aggregate.

Mode of Selection
Admission will be based on marks secured in the qualifying examination.

Admission procedure
Students seeking admission must submit the application in the prescribed form at www.nitte.edu.in along with the following documents:
  • Application Form along with a demand draft of ₹ 1000/- for Postgraduate program favouring Nitte deemed to university, payable at Mangaluru towards the registration fee.
  • 12th standard equivalent marks card/pass certificate – Original + 3 attested photocopies.
  • 10th std Marks card/pass certificate for proof of date of birth – Original + 3 attested photocopies.
  • Degree Marks cards of all the years-Original + 3 attested copies
  • Degree/ Provisional Degree certificate issued by the University – Original + 3 attested photocopies.
  • Transfer Certificate from the institution last attended – Original + 3 attested photocopies.
  • Conduct certificate from the institution last attended – Original
  • Eligibility Certificate issued by the Registrar, Nitte (deemed to university)
  • Migration certificate from the University of the institution last studied
  • Physical Fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner
  • Blood group certificate
  • Photographs – Recent color photo with white background, of resolution 300-600 dpi & size 35mm X 45 mm (Passport size) & 20mm X 25mm (Stamp size)
  • Aadhar card copy of the student

Commencement of course
The course commences on the date prescribed by Nitte (Deemed to be University) during the month of August.
