A course in biomedical science is essentially training in biology, particularly in the context of medicine. A student studies subjects like medical microbiology, pathology, human physiology, molecular biology, medical biotechnology and toxicology, with emphasis on practicals, in order to equip one with knowledge about health-care situations. Since these are medical related subjects a student doing the course in a medical school will have a distinct advantage. The University has 1200 bed teaching hospital having super specialty departments and a separate cancer institute. A well established research laboratory, animal house provide the additional edge for a research environment. The faculty includes medical doctors and PhD holders in areas of biomedical science.

The course follows an intensive semester pattern with special papers in the last semester in area like Bioinformatics, Medical Biotechnology and Social and Preventive Medicine and drugs discovery, radiation biology and medicinal chemistry. A biomedical graduate can take up career in research, either in pharma or biotech or in academia. One can also pursue careers as healthcare scientists and as teachers. There are also opportunities in non-laboratory jobs like marketing and sales.
